Background and Partner Organisation
Brot für die Welt has long-standing partnerships with Myanmar. The portfolio currently comprises 24 church-based and secular organisations with 32 projects working in the areas of community development, food security, agroecology, interfaith dialogue, protection of minorities, and lobbying and advocacy work. The organisations receive personnel or financial support.
Myanmar has faced many political, economic and social challenges for decades. Since the military coup in 2021, the country has been characterised more than ever by political instability, ethnic tensions and serious human rights violations.
The Myanmar dialogue position was established in 2013 in the context of Myanmar's political opening to support Brot für die Welt's partner organisations in the transition from military dictatorship to democracy. After the military coup in 2021, the Professionals tasks shifted from general training to ensuring that civil society organisations could continue to operate under repressive conditions.
The Professional for dialogue acts as a bridge between local NGOs and Brot für die Welt's Southeast Asia regional office in Berlin, thus actively participating in the partnership dialogue.
The Professional will be affiliated with an organisation in Cambodia or Thailand. The work will be carried out predominantly digitally.
